Kia Niro power steering problems – causes and solutions

The Kia Niro models are modern (hybrid and electric) cars with electric power steering (EPS). This system provides light and precise steering, but in practice power steering problems occur regularly. Drivers report, among other things, a heavy steering wheel, thumping or creaking noises when steering, or even loss of the power steering.

One of the most common complaints is that the steering suddenly becomes heavy, especially at low speed or while parking. This often goes hand in hand with an illuminated EPS warning light on the dashboard.
