steering column motor torque position sensor is in 99.99% the cause of malfunction of  the electric power steering.

Common Error Codes in the Powersteering ECU  

C1002, C5002, C1006, C1001 & C1002, 

If you have other error codes like only C1001 without vibrations you need to replace the ECU !
